Why doesn't my phone see the cache? What is cache on your phone and computer?

Most games for Android, if they are not simple arcade games, “weigh” more than 100 MB, so when they are downloaded, a cache file is also included. What is cache and how to install it? Our universal instructions will tell you how to install games with a cache on Android, and it will also tell you how to do this operation in situations where the cache is not in the folder, or when you downloaded the file on your computer.

The cache for applications and games on Android is a special file with resources, which was created so that when updating, users do not need to download the entire volume of the game again - only the executable files in the APK.

To manually install the cache on an Android device, you need to perform simple steps. To do this, you need a file manager with a built-in archiver that works with ZIP files. We recommend using the popular one.

Instructions for installing the cache:

  1. Download the installation APK file and cache, for example, from Trashbox.
  • Install the downloaded APK, but we don't launch.
  • Open a file manager with a built-in archiver. Find the downloaded cache (usually in the Download folder). This will be a ZIP or RAR archive. In our case it is called com.rovio.battlebay.zip. The archive already has a folder com.rovio.battlebay, and it contains a cache in OBB format. All this needs to be transferred to the directory along the path Android → obb.
  • Select the archive by long pressing → “Extract to” button and select the directory /Android/obb(sometimes this happens /sdcard/Android/obb). The same can be done in another way if you use an alternative file manager: unpack the archive in the folder where it is located; copy and paste the com.rovio.battlebay folder into /Android/obb/.

  • As a result, a cache folder should appear in the /Android/obb directory. In our case - com.rovio.battlebay.
  • Only after this can you launch the game.

  • Note: The cache for games from some developers needs to be placed in non-standard folders, for example:
    • Games from Gameloft - sdcard/gameloft/games/[cache folder]. The game downloaded from Google Play will be located in a different path - sdcard/Android/data/[cache folder].
    • Games from Electronic Arts (EA) - sdcard/Android/data/[cache folder].
    • Games from Glu - sdcard/glu/[cache folder].

How to install a cache if it is not in an archive or in a folder

Often the cache is downloaded not in packed form, but simply as an OBB file. In this case, the installation becomes slightly more complicated:
    1. You have downloaded the APK file and cache. The first one was installed, but the second one is a file with a name in the style of main.7610.com.rovio.battlebay.obb.

  • Then you need to find out Game ID and create a folder with it in the /Android/obb directory: go to the page of the game you need on Google Play (in our case, BattleBay); pay attention to the URL - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id= com.rovio.battlebay&hl=ru; the ID is hidden in it; the game ID text is written after id= and before &, if the latter is present. Thus, our ID is com.rovio.battlebay.

  • Copy the ID from the address bar and go to the /Android/obb directory in the file manager. There we create a folder whose name is the ID of our game. Just paste com.rovio.battlebay into the folder name field.

  • Next, we return to the cache that you downloaded. Copy main.7610.com.rovio.battlebay.obb and go back to /Android/obb/com.rovio.battlebay. We paste the cache file there.
  • Let's start the game.
  • How to install cache from computer

All these steps to install the cache can be performed directly from your computer if you connect your device in external storage mode. Simply unpack the archive with the cache and transfer the folder with the OBB file to the familiar /Android/obb directory on the microSD card or in the internal memory.

For more information about installing a cache on Android, see our video instructions:

In addition to the installation file itself, .apk also has a cache. The cache is an integral part of many Android games; it contains multimedia files and scripts without which the game will not work. Many novice users of smartphones and tablets do not know how to properly install games with CACHE, and when they see in the game description that it needs a cache, they get scared and do not download the game they need. Let me tell you the installation process step by step and you will understand that there is nothing complicated about it and once you install an Android game with cache according to the instructions, you will install such games with your eyes closed. Let's look at the installation using the example of a game.

So, first of all, let's go to Settings of your device, select Safety and put a check mark next to it unknown sources:

To install games we will need any file manager, but I recommend using it because it is the most convenient in my opinion, download it and install it. Now download the game and the cache for it, if you download through your mobile device, then all the files we need will be located either in the device’s memory or on the memory card in the folder Downloads. If you downloaded it via a computer, then connect your device to the computer via a usb cable, if you have a memory card in your device, go to it, find the same folder Downloads and copy the downloaded game and cache there, if there is no memory card, then put it in the folder in the device memory Downloads.

We have uploaded all the necessary files, now we launch the previously installed file manager X-plore File Manager and customize it a little. It has two panels, left and right. In the left panel we find the Downloads folder into which we added the game files (click on it, our files for installation will be there):

On the right - go to DEVICE MEMORY (internal memory), find the Android folder there, click on it and see two folders data and obb (if suddenly there is no obb folder, then just create it) now click on the obb folder so that it is highlighted:

It should look like in the screenshot: in the left panel there is a folder Downloads with game files, and on the right dedicated obb folder:

First, let's install the cache, on the left side click on the archive with the cache, the archive will open and there will be the folder we need, click on the checkbox so that it becomes active, that is, red:

Now click on the copy button:

A window will appear where you need to confirm the copying process, where we can make sure that the path is correct:

At the same time, for bulky programs, the application itself is first downloaded, and upon first launch it is suggested to download the so-called cache. These are the resources required for work. As a rule, graphics, video, sound, scripts. The cache takes up a decent amount of space, can reach several hundred megabytes and even several gigabytes.

The process of installing a game with a cache differs from installing applications from the Play Market.

ATTENTION. When downloading programs, make sure that they are suitable for your OS version. The official Play Market store detects this automatically and simply does not offer those that do not suit your gadget. On third-party resources, you will have to monitor this yourself.

Some apps and games only work on rooted phones, meaning they require root privileges to run. This is done by flashing the gadget’s firmware or with special programs. If you don't have root, don't download apps that require root.

    Installation

After preparing the gadget for installation, you can start downloading the game to the device:

IMPORTANT. On the OS, the internal memory is designated as SdCard. And removable memory cards extSdCard. Not all applications support installation on removable media. Please check this before downloading.

Thus, after you have cleared the cache, a folder with the game ID should appear on your device along the path SdCard/Android/Obb, in which a file with the obb extension will be located.

ADVICE. Sometimes the cache is included with the installer not as an archive, but directly in the obb file. In this case, for correct operation, you need to throw the cache into the folder you created.

    1. Find out the program ID:
      • Go to the Play Market website.
      • Find the application you need by name.
      • Copy the address of the game page into a text editor.
      • In this address after “id=” there will be the name we need.
    2. Copy it to the clipboard and create a folder with the same name in the Android section.
    3. Write the obb file to this folder.

    Possible mistakes

Despite the fact that the instructions for installing any games with a cache on the Android system are very simple, sometimes errors occur:

    1. The game does not see the cache. This happens if:
      • You copied it to a removable card, but the application does not support this.
      • When unpacking, you extracted not into the current folder, but with the name. Thus, you have one extra level of directories.
      • Perhaps the wrong way. If the site where you downloaded the program does not provide instructions on the installation path, launch the application and see if a new folder with a similar name appears. If yes, copy the cache file to it.
    2. When launched, the application asks to download additional data. The reason is again the same, the cache was installed in the wrong way.
    3. There is not enough internal memory. In this case, install the apk and select the “SD card” location in the application settings. But this option is not available on all devices.

These are the instructions on how you can independently install a cache for any game on your Android system for free. We copy it from the Internet to your computer, put it in the correct folder on your tablet or smartphone, and you can play. If you encountered problems with such an installation, describe them in the comments, whether you managed to solve them and how.

    Cache operation scheme

A cache is a specially allocated small area of memory with a larger exchange rate data than the traditional one. He exists in view inconsistencies between the computing power of processors and the speed of reading information from standard memory storage devices.

Progress required increasing volumes for data storage, while their processing speed has lagged since the dawn of computers. It is because of this that such a “bridge” was developed. The process of entering information into the cache memory is called " caching" Actually, that’s why it’s important to do it in a timely manner. cleanse– to maintain reading efficiency.

    Caching in browsers

    Browser caching algorithm

Often, when talking about caching, many people remember cache-files in browsers. And it’s not surprising, since cleaning them is one of the main tips that users are given when errors occur.

Are accumulating they, along with the number of sites viewed - from them, part of the information is loaded into the cache memory, thereby two goals: speed up total loading time and decrease load on network traffic. When you re-enter the site, it happens examination on the relevance of data between the server and client. It is up to the creator of the web page to decide what should be saved and what not.

    Cache in Windows

On Windows operating systems, cache files take up a fair amount of space. Are saved various temporary files created after running or changing a program, preview images and musical compositions, restore points OS.

Controls this process, the so-called cash manager, which periodically gets rid of from irrelevant resources. Moreover, it is precisely this frequency that is the key factor. effective work: if files are deleted too often, the system will waste time reading them again, and if too rarely, there will simply be no room left for new information.

    Cache on Android

On smartphones with the Android operating system, the situation looks similar, with one significant “but” - the amount of memory provided much lower than on a personal computer. In addition, after launching programs, they are stored in a tray list, from where they can then be re-installed. expand, with all saved changes made in the last session.

Unfortunately, the OS does not do a very good job of cleaning up unnecessary files, which is why applications may not work if used for a long time. incorrect, and the performance of the phone itself is significantly will decrease. To prevent this, it is recommended to use third-party programs, which perform cleaning, for example, Clean Master.
